Dr. Frank Alberta is well known throughout New Jersey and New England as a sports medicine specialist with expertise in shoulder, elbow and knee surgery.  He has over 11 years of experience treating the most difficult problems in these joints. He remains committed to improving his patients’ outcomes through teaching and learning.  He was the first surgeon in New Jersey to routinely collect data on his outcomes and to study it.
Dr. Alberta is an elected member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, a national society with admission based on recommendations of exisiting members, contributions to the field of shoulder and elbow surgery and a lasting commitment to teaching and learning.  Dr. Alberta is one of only 3 members of the ASES who practice in New Jersey.
Recognition by your peers is one of the most flattering forms of praise, and Dr. Alberta has received multiple awards from other medical professionals.  He is a multiple winner of the Jersey Choice Top Doctors recognition in NJ Monthly.  He has also been featured in New York Magazine’s Best Doctors 2014 and Inside Jersey Magazine’s Top Doctors.  He was also selected as a Nurses’ Choice Top Doctor in his field in NJ Monthly magazine.  Patients have recognized him as a Vitals.com Patients’ Choice award winner for 6 straight years, as well as Compassionate Doctor Certification for that last 3 years.
Dr. Alberta has written several textbook chapters on subjects including advanced shoulder arthroscopy techniques, the latest techniques and advances in sports medicine and orthopaedic trauma. He has published numerous journal articles through research into shoulder and elbow biomechanics, throwing injuries in athletes, strength training, advances in surgical techniques, and other sports injuries.  His current research projects involve advances in the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder instability, evaluation of throwing athletes following shoulder arthroscopy, elbow biomechanics, and surgical outcomes in overhead athletes. His work was featured in a Video Journal of Orthopaedics teaching video. He has been featured on Fox News for the Fox and Friends morning show on topics such as Preventing Injuries in Teenage Athletes and Injuries in the Golden Age Athlete.
In 2002, Dr. Alberta was selected to continue his training at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. This sports medicine fellowship is consistently one of the most sought after positions in the country. During his training in L.A., Dr. Alberta participated in the care of many professional teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, Sparks, Kings, Galaxy, and Avengers, the Anaheim Angels and Mighty Ducks, and USC and Loyola Marymount University athletics.
Dr. Alberta shares his expertise as a surgical instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and for Arthrex, Inc., the leading provider of arthroscopic and sports medicine instruments and implants.
He is an integral part of the Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School Orthopaedic Residency Program where he helps to educate the next generation of surgeons.  Dr. Alberta maintains privileges at Hackensack University Medical Center, The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and Metropolitan Surgical Center. Dr. Frank Alberta is a native of Bergen County, New Jersey. He graduated from Paramus Catholic High School and earned his bachelor’s degree with magna cum laude honors in Biology from Seton Hall University in South Orange. He attended the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, where he received his medical degree in 1997. Dr. Alberta completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Frank resides in Bergen County with his wife and 3 daughters. He is a competitive cyclist and an avid golfer.
